Who Else Wants to Make Memories by Creating Family Heirlooms Using Actual Photos?
Creating A Memory A few years ago, the superintendent of the school district I work for announced that he would retire. He had been with the district almost 40 years, and had taught and been a principal at several schools. A group of us decided to make a memory quilt for his retirement – creating a schoolhouse block representing each school in the district, and blocks representing the district office and bus garage. We also decided that it would be fun to put a picture of the school marquee in each block. Not being fans of detailed appliqué, we decided to use clip art,
then print the picture of each marquee on fabric, and appliqué
a simple square onto each school block. All went so well that we decided to extend the fabric printing to create fabric photos of the superintendent – transferring pictures from old school yearbooks onto the fabric – and placing them in the window of the schoolhouse block where he either taught or was a principal. The quilt was fantastic! It circled the district for employees, parents, and students to sign. He was very pleased when it was presented to him at his retirement party. You can do this, too! With Fathers’ Day, graduations, and summer weddings imminent, you can give someone the promise of a special quilt, letting them choose the pictures to include in the quilt. Your family and friends will love you for your creativity and thoughtfulness.
What gift could be better than that? How very personal and original. Something your family and friends will treasure for the rest of their lives, and will share with their family and friends. Oh how I wish we had the book Photo Fun before we made the quilt for the superintendent! Disappointment set in when we realized that (after the quilt was completed) that all of the clip art and photos printed on fabric would wash away if the fabric got wet! And I didn’t tell you how many times we had to run pieces of fabric through the printer in order to get one good copy. Using tape to hold the fabric on the paper, sometimes the fabric or tape would jam in the printer. Other times the fabric would stretch one way or the other resulting in a cockeyed picture. Oh, the time and fabric we wasted! Save yourself time, money and aggravation by owning this book! With Photo Fun, you will know the very best methods for transferring your photos to fabric.
