Heart Quilt Ideas for Valentine's Day
and February Free Quilt Block Patterns

Greetings Quilter -

Well, we all survived Groundhog Day, even though I understand that Punxsutawney Phil's (the official groundhog spring predictor) report was 2 hours late getting posted on the internet.

Nerve-wracking as it was, Phil did predict that we have 6 more weeks of winter left here in the Northern Hemisphere. What a surprise!

And what a great time for creating some fabulous quilts.

With Valentine's Day coming right up, you may feel that you are running out of time to create a wonderful decoration or gift for a loved one.

Think again. You'll find some quick and easy heart block patterns below, and my easiest heart quilt ideas.

Heart quilts are perfect for Valentine's Day as well as for a baby, and babies were the beneficiaries of my heart quilts.

You'll find a description below telling how I made these quick and easy quilts.

In addition, these heart blocks are relatively easy to make (at least a couple of them are), and you'll find a video below showing how to sew the simple Valentine's Day Heart quilt block.

Sunday, February 14 is a day filled with holidays. In addition to Valentine's Day, you can celebrate: Chinese New Years, Oregon Admission Day, Ferris Wheel Day, Library Lovers Day, and for the singles - International QuirkyAlone Day (it was new to me!).

Enjoy!

Quilt Idea - Heart Quilt for a Baby or for Valentines’ Day

You can count on a smile when you create a quilt with hearts for someone.

Heart quilts come in various designs. Heart quilt blocks are popular and somewhat easy to make, but another way to make a heart quilt is machine appliqué.

Several years ago I made multiple heart quilts using the same basic technique. One day I cut out hearts and machine appliquéd them onto a background, using a zigzag stitch. I used various colors of background squares – some blue (as shown) some muslin, and some red.

When I was ready to make a quilt, I chose a number of squares and designed a quilt. No two quilts were alike. Not only did I use a different color selection for the hearts in the quilt, but the background fabric was different, and the settings were different.

Some of the blocks were sewn right next to each other, others had sashing, and still others were set on point. You'll see some of them pictured below.

These were made for babies, but it is easy to make one in red and white for Valentine’s Day. If it’s too late for this year, plan ahead and create a quick heart quilt for next year.

Maybe even red and green hearts for Christmas!
