A Curved Needle to Make Tying a Quilt Easier
Greetings Quilter - Flannel Baby Quilt DVDs Last week during our online webinars about the Flannel Baby Quilt, a quilter asked whether the DVDs including all of the videos would be available. Although I hadn't really considered it before, I got to thinking that maybe there are quilters who would like to have the information at their fingertips for sometime in the future, and be able to refer to it whenever they want to. So, I spent some time and put all of the videos together in DVD format, and now they are available for pre-order. Because I didn't know how many of you might want them and because I am working to keep costs down by not carrying any inventory, you can reserve your copy of this DVD set until Friday, June 19, and we will ship them out the week of June 29. You'll find more information about the class below: Online Baby Quilt Class This week's news includes a video demonstration of the Fathers' Choice quilt block. Because it has so many simple squares, this pattern would make a great block for including photos of babies, grandbabies, favorite vacation spots, or other fun photos. In addition to the video, you can download the pattern. Also this week - to make tying a quilt easier, there is information about curved needles. I've found a package that includes 4 needles in 2 different sizes, so you have choices to make it even easier. In the meantime, Happy Happy! And now for the rest of the news - - Happy Quilting!

Fast Fat Quarter Baby Quilts Tools – Curved Needles
This is one of those notions I picked up one day in a quilt shop not knowing what I would ever do with them, especially since I rarely tied quilts. It’s almost like collecting fabric – every once in a while I see something hanging on the wall and figure if it is hanging there it will become useful some time in the future. And sure enough, last year I made my first tied quilt. And now, once again, these needles came in handy for the Quick and Easy Baby Quilt. This is like so many notions, it is relatively inexpensive, so if you see them hanging on a wall, just pick it up. These had been in my drawer so long that when I began tying my first quilt, I forgot I had them, so I began my project using a straight needle that would be used for working with ribbon. Within a short time, I became frustrated and then remembered that I had the curved needles. Problem solved! The eye of the needle is large enough to easily fit embroidery thread, the point is sharp enough to go through the fabric but not so sharp that you will poke your finger and start some major bleeding. The needle is thick enough to go through most any kind of fabric or quilt – even thick wool quilts with batting. There are two sizes of needles, so depending on how thick your quilt is and how far apart your want the entrance and exit points, one will be just about right. If the natural curve of the needle gives you a stitch that you think is too long, you can adjust your fabric to make a shorter stitch. Even if you aren’t planning to tie a quilt, you might pick up a package of these the next time you see them – just in case.

Maybe you didn't know that your friend's granddaughter was going to have a baby.
Or possibly you knew, but didn't have time before, and now there's a Baby Shower coming up. You want to make a baby quilt for her, and need it quick.
Or, maybe you are a beginning quilter and want to learn how to make a quilt starting with an easy pattern so you can get your feet wet and learn the basics of quilting.
When quilters asked to learn how to make a quick and easy baby quilt, I pondered what that might look like.
Then I remembered my favorite baby quilt when quilting daughter, Stephanie, was a baby. It was a simple flannel quilt given to me by one of my mom's friends.
So I drew up a pattern, cut the fabric and made the quilt - recording every step along the way so I could share them with you.
And now, all of the video instruction is ready for you right here in TheQuiltingCoach.com.
This easy-to-follow online Baby Quilt Class includes 8 Lessons. In each Lesson, you will see a video showing you exactly what to do and how to do it. The videos are relatively short (between 9 and 20 minutes). And by the end of the video, you will know how to proceed with that step in making your quilt.
Invest in the DVD set. For those who want access to the information for more than the two weeks of the class, you can invest in the DVDs of the entire class. This information is exactly the same as the information you will see online, but you will get convenient DVDs that you can pop into your TV or computer whenever you like and as many times as you like.
Register for the Class or Invest in the Flannel Baby Quilt DVD set and watch it whenever you want.

Postcard Quilts for the Troops
Birthday Roundup Next - Deadline August 10!
Penny's Postcard Posse has sent more than 15,000 fabric postcards to our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and the hospital in Germany.
As quilters, we know what those postcards mean to the men and women who recieve them. Some who get them receive no other mail from home. And for all of them, it's a reminder of the wonderful freedoms they are fighting for and the comforts they will enjoy when they return home.
The Birthday Roundup is in full swing - the deadline is August 10
Diane had a great idea to send over a package of Birthday postcards that can be handed to soldiers the day of their birthday! What a great idea.
So, we've set up a deadline of August 10, and there is plenty of time to get some postcards made by then. She will send over a big box and the soldier "in charge" can hand them out as birthdays arrive. I will be adding birthday-themed postcard designs to www.QuiltBlockLibrary.com, so keep on checkin'
To make the Birthday Roundup deadline, get your cards to Diane by August 10.
Please send your cards to:
