Dear Quilting Friend,

There are thousands of quilt blocks out there, and every one of them can be made in any size you want to make, and with any fabric placed in any one of the patches.

And each time you change the placement of the fabrics in a patch, you change the design of the quilt. It's actually quite amazing, and fun!

Before there was quilt design software for our computers, there was - - well, rulers, paper, colored pencils, trips to the copy shop, and your imagination guiding you as to what your quilt will actually look like finished, using your fabric.

And if you got your design to a certain point, and then decided to change something - like the width of the sashing, whether your sashing had cornerstones or not, the border design, the number of borders, the width of the borders, or something else - you had to start all over.

Not only did it take a lot of design resources, but it took a bunch of time. And, if you are anything like I am, instead of spending all that time designing and trying different things, you just started sewing blocks - hoping your final design would look good.

Even now, without quilt design software, if you have a computer you can save the trips to the copy shop, but you are still mostly left with ruleres, paper and colored pencils - or crayons!

And then there was the question of how large to make the blocks.

Maybe you thought you would like to make 9 inch blocks, but when you considered how much time it would take to make each block, you realized that if you made 12 inch blocks, you could have the same size finished quilt, but it wouldn't take as long to make.

The problem was that you already had the templates for 9 inch blocks, and either you didn't know how to make templates for a 12 inch block, or you were so tired of messing with the pattern (anxious to get to the cutting and sewing part), that you decided to go ahead and make the 9 inch blocks anyway.

Now with EQ7 quilt design software in your hands, all of those problems melt away.

Using this fantastic resource, you can:

  • create your own block design in any size - whether it is a "standard" size or a custom size that fits your needs
  • choose from a huge library of blocks, and make templates in any size you want
  • add your fabrics to the blocks in your design so you can see exactly what your block or quilt will look like with fabrics you choose
  • play with the design of a quilt - add or delete sashing, change the borders
  • print out full size templates, pictures of your blocks and quilt, fabric requirements and rotary cutting instructions - making your cutting and sewing easier and avoiding running out of fabric
  • choose from a large library of pre-designed quilt and border layouts
  • tap into a huge library of fabrics, giving you an idea of how different colors will look in your blocks or quilt
  • save all of the versions of your designs for future use
  • import photographs and other images, change them to meet your needs, and then print them on fabric for your quilt (plus you can place them in your quilt design so you know what they will look like)
  • add thread, so you can see your quilting design using a particular color of thread
  • and much, much more

Whew!

I'll admit that when I finally decided to invest in this quilt design software, I was excited, yet more than a little apprehensive.

I'm pretty good at computers, but I thought it would be too complicated for me to figure out, and I was worried that I would miss my paper and colored pencils.

Even after it was installed, it took months for me to figure it out, and even try to do something other than just coloring in blocks using their fabric library.

But now, although those days are long gone, I remember what it was like trying to figure it all out.

Now you can have the key to using EQ7

eq7 how to use

As promised, I will be hosting several live webinars (online training) showing you how to design blocks and quilts using EQ7 - the latest version of this fabulous quilt design software.

Maybe I could have condensed it into one session. But as I looked at all of the things quilters asked to learn how to do, I quickly figured out that by putting it in one session, everyone would leave more confused that they started out.

Plus, in the traditional How-to-Quilt style, we will walk you through designing a block and quilt - from start to finish.

This isn't the normal type of training where a teacher shows you how to point and click a hundred different functions and you never connect the dots enough to understand how to design your project.

Nope, I have chosen a project and will show you how to create the block using EQ7, add another block using the Block Library and then place those blocks into a quilt - with all the steps in between: adding fabrics, changing colors, etc.

This is just the way most quilters would approach a quilt design process, so that when you have your project, you can follow along the same steps I show you in the live training.

Don't take my word for it. Here is what a few quilters had to say after the first EQ7 Training Session:

"Dear Penny,

Thank you for the EQ7 webinar.  I watched the webinar on one computer and followed along on my other computer.  That way I could be doing everything you were.  It was very informative and much easier than trying to follow the book.  A few times the sound cut out but I was able to figure what was said.  Again thank you."

Caron

"Thank you for a most informative and easily accessed session. The live presentation made it feel comfortably personal and the very minor hitches increased that effect. To be able to access the session from so far away at an realistic hour was above expectations. I am looking forward to the second."

Sally. (Perth, Western Australia)

"Hi Penny,

Thank you for the excellent training. I'm just starting to make quilts different than the basic 9 patch. I purchased the program and went through the video's, (which were very good), But I had really wanted to learn about designing my own blocks. After the training I opened my program to see if I could duplicate what you had shown us. I amazed myself LOL, I was able to duplicate it very easily, I changed the colors, added more blocks, and will be using the "Jacob's Ladder" as my next quilt pattern. Again, thank you for taking the time to put this training together. I look forward to the next one, hopefully, I won't miss the online part as my husband and I are going on vacation for the next 3 weeks."

Sincerely,
Chris C  MN

Penny,

" What can I say???  You were tremendous!  You were so calm and so prepared.  I am so happy that you offered this class.  I just purchased EQ7 and hadn't used it much yet.  I'm a visual learner so your webinar was perfect.  Can't wait for the next one...."

Eileen (in upstate NY)

Hi Penny,

Really enjoyed the webinar last evening and am looking forward to 2nd session.  I took your advice and viewed a few of your videos on YouTube which I thought were very, very helpful.

I'm looking forward to finding out how to add fabric to the library.  I hope there is a way to pull off display swatches that are available on store/fabric web sites into EQ7 without having to buy the fabric and then scanning it.   I've bought alot of Kaffe Fassett material of late and thought it would be easier to import professional swatches than my scanning.  I can see where the EQ7 software will help me immeasurably with picking more dramatic color schemes.

Abby

This is my very first experience with an EQ program and my very first time participating with an on-line webview.  It was excellent, simple, and you did a great job.  I can't hardly wait until the next episode.  I am actually thinking I can do this!!!!!  I also love your website!

Jane Rhoads

I really enjoyed the presentation.  You went slow enough that anyone, even I, could keep up.  Thanks!!

My husband was given a "gag order" while it was going on.  He was really cute tiptoeing around while it was going on.  I had just gone through the lessons for EQ6 privately, and that made everything make sense.  I think I could have made it fine without the prep work, but it did help.

Cynthia Blair

Hi Penny,  just want to let you know how much I have enjoyed and learned from your sessions.  I have had E6 for sometime and have not used it at all.  Now I have E7 and I think that I will be able to use it better and not be so intimidated by it.  Can't  wait for the next 2 sessions.  Thank You so much for your generosity!!!!!

Jan Fish

Penny,

I want to thank you for these EQ7 sessions. I look forward to the last two. You have been great at explaining the program and I have learned many "small" tips that make a hugh difference in my comfort with the program. You also encouraged us to contact the EQ7 technical support if we had specific questions and I did. They were VERY helpful and responded quickly.
Watching your sessions has helped me to see the vast potential of EQ7 and now I want to spend more time playing with it and trying different design ideas.

I also really enjoy your weekly newsletters. Please keep up the great work you do encouraging and educating other quilters.

Mary Edwards

Thanks Penny, I love the sessions.  I look forward to each one.  I am trying to learn how to stencil with thread, but have been afraid to try, so I cant wait until we get to those.  Plus I have tried printing some images out on fabric from your videos, so I am really excited about that.  It just keeps getting better and better.  Thank you so much for the training.

The hardest part is knowing that I just got Eq6 so Eq7 is out of the question right now and that where the new images program is.  That's going to be rough but exciting.   You did a great job. My husband even brought me popcorn to each while I watch on one computer and had Eq6 up on the laptop. LUV it.

Thanks for giving me a break from my typing to enjoy this.

Charlene Huffman

Hi Penny

Great Webinar, you answered a lot of questions before I even knew what questions to ask!

It's good to see m. mouse looking so sleek and elegant -- what a lucky cat he is to have you on his side, through thick/thin/fat/skinny/toothless/toothy/diabetic/not diabetic. If you'd tell him that, since I'm diabetic too, I understand what he's going through, and he has my most sincere sympathy for his maladies! Sam, Fritti, Sid, and Squirt (the latter two were abandoned, I think, and have adopted my front porch) all send their catty love.

You're doing a great job with the webinars -- thanks so much!

Sue

Hello Penny and m. mouse

Just wanted to thank you for the great session.  I learned a lot of things I didn't know from EQ6!.  I had a class on EQ6 put didn't really learn much so I haven't done much with it.  After your session, I'm very excite to start designing, well, at least playing with the software.  I've ordered the DVDs so I'll have them whenever I want to review, or do while watching.

Your teaching style is very easy to follow and very welcome after some of the classes I've been in.  Thank you so much, I'm looking forward to next week.

Sincerely, Carol Dickinson

And we had more after Session 2:

Hi Penny.

Thank you so very much for the 2nd class on EQ7.  I can see I'll be upgrading from EQ6.  I've had EQ ever since EQ5--upgraded to 6 and never fully understood how to use it.  Your classes have helped me immensely. I could design on it, but it was by chance I was saving it in the right place.

Tonight I'm at my sister-in-law's house and she had 25 "tube quilt" blocks she didn't know how she was going to arrange and how much sashing, cornerstones, borders fabric to buy.  I set up my laptop and laid it out on EQ6, drawing each square--was able to import fabric from Benartex website as that was what she was using.  It was amazing how fast it went together and now she knows how much fabric to buy without wasting precious $$ on buying too much (I know, I know--that's an oxymoron--too much fabric???HA!!!)

I truly appreciate your classes and will be ordering the DVD's this week!

Thanks again,

Marcie Cornelius

Hi Penny:

Thank  you so much for presenting the sessions.  I had the computer going right and everything was working good last night. I thoroughly enjoyed the sesson.  I plan to watch it again and make more notes.  You did a super job. Thanks again for all the time you put into the preparation.

Love & Prayers,
Frankie Loretta Holt

It was WONDERFUL!!  Thank you so very much for a great experience.  I had never done a webinar before and I will surely be looking for others!!  Did I understand it correctly that it will be online for us to re-view if we have questions regarding what was discussed?

I will certainly be looking forward to the next sessions.  Thank you again for a great experience and sharing your wealth of knowledge!!

Thanks
Diane

I absolutely loved the training on line. I went into my EQ7 and was able to
design a quilt. Wonderful job. Thank you so much for doing this for us.

Jackie

Penny, I really enjoyed the webinar.  Using Webinar was very effective.

Keep up the good work!

Phil Lahrmer

Hi Penny,
I really enjoyed your talk on Tuesday morning (for me)

I have a quilting program called Quilt Pro and have absolutly no idea how to use it and am very frustrated with it, I am now going to sell it and have ordered the EQ7 as it looks so much more user friendly and with your helpful video talk will make it even easier.

It was really fasinating and i enjoyed it all and my husband was sitting next to me too and even he thought it was really good, I am sorry we left before it was finished but it was getting on to 3am and I had a numb bum

BUT will do it again next week too, the week after we are away on holiday so will miss that one, but am sure by then will have a fairly good idea how it all works,

Thank you again for running this it is a briliant idea

Patricia

I had no problem at all keeping up with you but I had done the 6 lessons in EQ6 and the first 2 in EQ7 so I had a clue where things were and didn't have to hunt too much.  I didn't realize that about the copyright and selling quilts we make but should have.

I'm a photoholic big time and computer crafter who does a lot of computer crafts including my own photos and have accessorized a few anniversary and big birthday parties. We were seriously considering doing it as a business so of course I knew I had to use my own photos to make it work or the beyond a doubt photos from the client so I guard those copyrights carefully.

Recently copyright and quilt blocks and quilt designs has been discussed in my quilt chapter but so far I don't sell my quilts.  As a hand quilter, as soon as one is completed it's out the door as a gift to a family member and with 2 children, their spouses and 7 grandchildren between them, they are all eager for a Mom/Grammy quilt.

It didn't dawn on me to hook up the net book until just as you were getting started with the webinar and I knew I'd go bonkers sitting there watching and for me concentration and focus would waver too much because I wanted to be hands on and doing this sure solved my problem.

Most of the EQ users I know here in The Villages, FL have a desktop as well as a laptop so they could participated easily that way.  I was amazed at how well the net pad handles EQ7 and working with it during your lesson.

The computer club chapter here offers this work along feature for those with laptops and our rec centers have free wii fi for us to connect into so we can all be on network and work.  It's really nice but I'd never taken my laptop due to the weight of it and 5 major abdominal surgeries resulting in lifting and carrying limits. With the net book, I can tuck it into a bag and I'm off.

Thank you,
Patty

Hello Penny

Thanks for the wonderful webinar, Session 2.  There was a lot to present and you did a great job.  This was such a good idea and so nice of you.  I can really learn how to do this from your instructions.  I'm happy that I've ordered the whole DVD sessions because now I can listen and not have to take a lot of notes because I know I can review.  I'm looking forward to the next 2.  Thanks, again.

Carol

And after Session 3:

Penny,

EQ7, webinar session 3: pretty cool stuff. Very clear. My only suggestion would have been to use an actual photo with faces and nature for the COLOR & HUE segments (only). I think, for me, it would have shown the differences and applications better.

Many thanks. I look forward to session 4. Hello to m.mouse.
Karen Brennan

Hi Penny

I was one of your students last night.  I am really finding your training; it is so helpful.  Looking forward to the 4th session.

Cheers,

Abby

Thank you for a very interesting seminar #3.  I have enjoyed all the seminar's.  I found it easy to follow the book as you were talking.  I wish you had the seminars on a CD.  Thanks again.

ellie

Penny,

Thanks so much for doing the online sessions for EQ7--I don't think I would have figured out so much by myself so rapidly.  I an really looking forward to Session 4 and how to work with variable sized blocks (e.g. panels) in a quilt or wall hanging.  I definitely haven't figured it out for myself.  Center
medallions also come under that heading.

Hopefully, you will also be doing something with the thread and quilting pattern overlays.  It would be really nice to audition quilting patterns (especially original ones) for the occasional pieced tops I give to our local Amish hand quilters.  They are willing to try any almost pattern I can come up with and the software would make that a lot easier.  I am only a beginning hand quilter myself so am still very concerned with getting just the right pattern on a possible future "masterpiece".

Just doing the sessions with you has given me 5 new design ideas (so far) for future quilts. While I was taking notes, I was also sketching the ideas as they occurred to me!!  You made me feel more creative already!!

I'm looking forward to the last EQ7 session and thanks so much for being such a good teacher.

Kathryn Garrison

While I really benefitted from Sessions 1 and 2, I was totally inspired bySession 3.  I have always wanted to learn how to do the photo imaging on quilts and I guess I was just afraid to step out of my box and try it.  But with the information you gave us in the webinar, I am ready for whatever the world of imaging holds on quilts for me.

In fact, I have gone so far as to experiment with some images and this weekend will be starting on a new project (Christmas quilt for my niece) that will include some of the new things I have learned through the EQ7 training.

Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge.

 Judy

Penny,

Thank you so much, the information that you provided was absolutely mind boggling.  I have a couple of quilts I've been wanting to design for my brother and youngest son, and that lesson gave me so many ideas, I can't wait to get started.  Thank you and I'm looking forward to Lesson 4.  I've used EQ since version 4, but have only used it sparingly, now I will definitely be using it more.  I also do digitizing for embroidery so I know EQ7 will definitely be a great tool for that.

Thank you
Nancy Howell

Penny,

Session 3 was great. Thanks so much for offering this to us EQ7 newbies.

The date and time worked out perfectly for me. I do understand that it does not work out for everyone.

Thanks again,

Lillie Doerr

I really enjoy these webinars.  Since viewing the very first one, you have provided us with an amazing amount of creativity.  I am a novice at quilting and I was so impressed with the software that I am purchasing it.  I informed a fellow quilter of the webinars and she had also registered for #2 and 3..

Thank you so much for taking the time to help us novices out with "expanding our horizons" with your webinars.  I am definitely looking forward to the next one!

Aleida

However, we know that it isn't convenient for everyone, and we know that watching a video once is great. But if you want to really learn something, you may want to watch it more than once - especially since there are so many things to learn.

So you can get your very own video recordings of the Online Training. That way, you can listen in at your convenience from now until forever. After all, the replays for Sessions 1 and 2 are already exclusively for members of TheQuiltingCoach.com, and then you won't have access to the valuable information that will enable you to use this Quilt Design software every time you make a quilt.

Your Time is Worth Something, isn't it?

Often I get invited to attend live training, and it doesn't fit into my time schedule, or I know that there is so much information that it will be almost impossible to take adequate notes during the training.

Plus I know that when I am taking notes, I miss some of the new information that is being delivered - no matter how slow the teacher goes.

Since you invested in the software, you want to get the most out of it with the least amount of time and frustration spent learning how to use it. After all, that is time you could have actually using the software to design blocks and quilts.

Why not invest in a DVD copy of the training so you can have it at your fingertips whenever you would like to review it - at 3am in the morning when everything is quiet; when the grandkids are taking a nap; when hubbie is out shopping; or even at a gathering of your quilting friends.

To give you our best deal, we are offering a pre-order of the DVDs. That means you can reserve a copy of the Training Videos which will be available a week or two after the live training is over. That way, we can get a special discount from our DVD copier-guy, Tony.

And What About the EQ Software You Have on Your Computer?

Are you getting the most out of the software that is loaded on your computer?

If you are like most of us, you use only one or two functions of the hundreds of things this quilt design software can do. And that's if you use it at all.

Just read some of the comments from quilters who say that once they loaded it on their computer, they found it so confusing to learn, that they never opened it up again.

And then read the next sentence - the one about how much confidence they gained from attending just one (let alone more than one) of the live EQ7 Training Sessions.

You, too, will have the confidence to draw blocks and quilts using this valuable software once you have watched just one of the live training video discs.

Plus, after you draw your quilt, print out the fabric requirements and picture of your heirloom quilt to the fabric shop with you so you will get the perfect color fabric in just the right amounts - saving time and money. That way, when you return home from your shopping journey, you'll be ready to start your quilt - knowing that you have exactly what you need to complete your project.

And to make it an even easier decision, we are including a couple of extra goodies:

eq 7 quilt design software

Bonus Gift #1 – Value $228.00
Full - Size Training Handout Slides for All 4 Sessions

Why keep the paper when you can have this on CD and look at it any time you need to?

And these are the full-size handouts for all 4 Sessions. The one you probably already downloaded has three slides on each page. In this Bonus Gift, each slide is on its own page, so you can see even more details about the screens in the program and how to perform the various functions.

I don't know about you, but sometimes I have paper copies of things and when I really want them, I can't find them. With this Gift, you'll never misplace this valuable handout - even if your computer crashes - and it won't take up any space for your fabric or other quilting goodies, because you will have the handout on CD.

Just pop it into your computer, open it up and take a look, print the pages you need, or just close the file once you are finished.

As you can imagine, this is available no place else on the planet, and actually is rather Priceless. But, if I were going to sell this incredible information, I would put a price tag of $57 for each Session - remember it's not the paper, it's the information on the paper that allows you to remove all of the mystery of working with EQ7 to design your blocks and quilts.

This Gift alone is a $228.00 value and it’s yours free with your order of The Secrets of EQ7 Session 1-4 DVDs.

Bonus Gift #2 – Value $350.00
70 Quilt Block Pattern Files from EQ6

eq6 pattern files
Just a small sampling of EQ6 pattern files you will get

We all know that it's easier to learn from examples than it is to start from scratch and try to figure it out.

And to get you started in EQ7, here are some pattern files that are ready to load up into your EQ7 (or EQ6) software.

Feel free to use any of the 70 quilt block patterns included in this bonus to make quilts, blocks or just to play around.

All of these are copyright-free, and are yours to use in any way you want.

Open up a file, and you'll see how quilting daughter, Stephanie, and I use EQ6 to place the fabrics in each of the patches.

Print out full size templates and rotary cutting instructions for any size block you like. Don't be limited by any pre-conceived idea about 8 inches, 9 inches, 10 inches, or 12 inches.

Mix and match blocks as you design your quilts.

The files include images of the blocks, so you know exactly what the block looks like before you open the EQ6 file. And you'll get a sheet showing all of the blocks with the names, so you'll know what you are sewing.

These are all traditional blocks and include all skill levels - from easy-to-sew beginner blocks to challenging blocks a more experienced quilter might enjoy.

It's difficult to place a value on this, since nobody on earth is providing their EQ6 files (that I know of anyway), but if you figure a low of $5 for each file, this Gift alone is a $350.00 value and it’s yours free with your order of The Secrets of EQ7 Session 1-4 DVDs. After all, there are 70 quilt block patterns!

Bonus Gift #3 – Value $49.94

Quilter and Copyright Expert
Value $27.97

m. mouse wants to be sure that everyone who is serious enough about using EQ7 to invest in 4 Session Set knows what the rules are for using the software.

After all, kitties like to know the rules. Whether they play by them or not is a whole nother thing.

Seriously, several quilters have asked questions regarding various copyright laws.

For example, did you know that you can't legally sell a quilt you make using a copyrighted pattern you buy in the quilt shop? And, you can't use one of those patterns for a raffle quilt either - without the copyright-holders permission.

As you begin using EQ7, you may decide to use the software to design quilt patterns for sale - we hope you do, actually!

So, to be sure that you know all of the rules, we've decided to include a CD copy of an interview we did with Sylvia Landsman Rasmussen, a quilter and copyright expert.

During this interview, Sylvia addressed specific questions relating to the use of copyright-free quilt and quilt block patterns (all of those from many years ago), as well as how to protect your original quilt and quilt block designs.

This interview will save you headache, heartache and possibly thousands of dollars! It's conversational style makes it easy to listen to and understand what the laws are. Plus, if you still have questions, Sylvia is happy to answer them via email through her website.

This interview is yours FREE when you purchase theThe Secrets of EQ7 Session 1-4 DVDs, saving you an additional $27.97!

And that’s if you could find this valuable information elsewhere.

Oh, I know you got a book with your software, and there are a bazillion discussion forums online to answer your questions.

But, if you are anything like I am, for years I didn't even know the questions to ask about how to do something using the software.

And if you don't know the question, you can't possibly get an answer. In this training, I know the questions and I went out of my way to show all that I have learned about designing blocks and quilts quickly and painlessly using EQ7.

And you get it all on the DVD copy of the live training.
