Lea Ingram is an artist who uses fabric to express her art. Lea will join us for our Eavesdrop on a Telephone Conversation on May 27.

Greetings Quilter -

Many quilters started with a background of sewing, and then transferred their sewing skills into the world of quilting.

Lea Ingram is a painter, working in the medium of fabric. She uses hand dyed and hand painted fabrics and incorporates quilting and embellishment.

Her works have been juried into many Art Shows and she has won several Art Awards.

Lea's work has been published in "American Style" magazine and a Taiwan magazine titled "Hand Made."

That's not to say that Lea is new to sewing. She began sewing at the age of three when she started to design and create entire wardrobes for her dolls. Her mother, who was a professional seamstress, encouraged her interest and allowed her to use her sewing machine when she turned five and could reach the foot peddle!

Lea loves to work with fabric and quilting because she can layer fabrics and add thread work to create images that are more dimensional. She often paints directly onto fabric and then incorporates the painting into the quilt--a combination that she finds very exciting and rewarding.
