How to Quilt>Types of Thread
Types of Thread
Question to Bob Purcell: Can you give us an overview of different types of thread and their use and just basically should we be using different threads in a serger and embroidery, different threads for embroidery and that kind of thing? A: We do get this question quite a bit. Can I use serger thread in a quilt? Serger thread is huge. There’s all types. If you go to the discount store and buy what they have on sale, the larger cones are $1.99 or 2.99; that is pretty much the serger thread, very cheap, loosely spun, polyester, and should I use that in a quilt? No. Is it ok in a serger? Yes. Listen to the rest of the audio clip where Bob explains more about thread to use in your serger as well as describing other things to think about as you decide which thread to use in a quilt or other project.
You can order the full audio CD of the Eavesdrop on a Telephone Conversation with President of Superior Threads, Bob Purcell, and hear all of the answers to the questions Enquiring Quilting Minds want to know about thread. Happy Quilting!
