A Two Loop Knot Will Secure your Hand Stitching -
A Second Method
It seems that quilters are always looking for a quicker and easier way to do most everything, and tying knots to end stitching is one of those things.
For those of us who do some hand stitching, there are several options for ending your stitching so that it stays sewn but doesn't create bulk in your quilt.
Here is a quick way to create a secure knot that will keep your stitching in place. Another article describes a different method for making the same kind of knot.
To make this knot easilytakes only about 2" of thread left - in other words, plan ahead!
The first step is to take a backstitch and create a small loop with your thread. Pull the needle and thread completely through the fabric, leaving a small loop.

Poke the tip of your needle through the loop. I find that pointing the needle downward makes the next step easier.

Twist the thread around the needle so you end up with 2 turns around the needle.

Pull the needle completely through the loop. The thread you are pulling through should be wrapped two times by the thread in the loop.

Pull the thread tight to secure the knot.

Hope that helps.
